Flashback Friday: Cool Dad Edition

I love old shots like this of my parents.
Shots that aren't really 'posed' but are just them acting silly. Around the same age I am now..
And I may be biased, but I think their both totally good looking (despite dad's facial expression!)
& mum I wished you'd kept those sunnies!
Well off to catch the train now have a great Friday everyone & blissfully enjoy your weekend.
Mine is already looking so busy (but FUN!) !!

Flashback Friday

my nanna, her mother, father and little brother
circa late 1920's.

The warm weather is back. After that crazy week of non stop rain where we were back in tracksuits now it's back to air conditioners full force!! Plus we haven't even got any of those forecasted thunderstorms these past few days (I love when the weather guys are wrong like that!!)

This Friday for me marks my last 'offical' free weekday before college starts on Monday - eek! M and I are planning on going down on the train tomorrow for a date - to see how far the walk is from the train station and so I can get my bearings. Maybe even have lunch at Pancakes at the Rocks? - YUM!! Getting a little excited and kinda nervous now. I'm not really good with meeting new people and being out of my comfort zone - your prayers would be awesome!

Today I feel accomplished and have had one of those 'domestic bliss' days!
Friday included:
a little sleep in.
getting to wear new clothes, yeah for $10 top and $11 shoes!!
(also admiring my new $6 ballet flats - $6!!!!) they are awesome & have little black flowers on them :)
taking lunch to my boy at the office and eating together.
baking a chocolate caramel slice and having all the ingredients actually in the cupboard!
while wearing my Amy Butler apron.
listening to some fun music while sewing.
and dancing around silly like.
constantly crossing things off my to do list.
peach iced tea.
an email that was so sweet it made me cry - yeah thats right girl, I said cry - love u!
waiting for lover boy to come home and stay the night.
maybe even an afternoon stroll along the beach (although unlike my great grandfather we may actually leave the gun at home!! and check out those swimming costumes!).

Hope your Friday is just as lovely!

Some like it Hot!

grandma. grandpa. auntie susie.
early 1950's.
Apparently we're in for a super hot weekend. High 30's all weekend long. You'll be sure that M and I will be floating in the pool with a good book (Anne of Green Gables anyone?) or mucking around at the beach. I can't wait. Although I'm sure we won't be able to do it with as much style as my grandparents! We'll also be dropping in to the mechanics so M can get some modifications done to his car - a bigger exhaust. Not my idea of a great way to spend money, but then I just think of my huge fabric stash and I feel too guilty to say anything. We all need a little 'fun money' right :)

ps. last day of work today eeeeek! :D

pps. Have a great weekend all!

grandma-made

Yay Friday you are here!! And I am excited because along with the end of a very long and tiring week you bring a weeks holiday to me and my family. So girl's this is me signing off till next Friday - we're off for a week on our boat we're we'll hopefully be catching some sunshine and splashing around like these little cuties. And oh my how I need it - feeling so very frazzled at the moment!
Now...if only my swimming cosies were that cute :)

And...I picked my camera up yesterday all fixed so I will have some photos to share and, it didn't cost me at all! I think it might have been because I was honest with the fact that I dropped it and it was God's way of blessing me for my honesty. Thank you lord.. that could of been an expensive exercise!

so, c you Friday
and hope to catch up with many of you girls at the DB Christmas Catchup!

Flashback Friday

Every time I see a picture of my dad with his brothers and sisters I just can't help but burst out singing the Brady Bunch theme song...here's a story...3 girls... 3 boys.
And all so close in age, I don't think there's even 24 months between each sibling!
This photo was taken mid 1960's? and I'm pretty sure from the stories I have been told that grandma used to sew all the girls uniforms too - phew! They kinda remind me about one of my old school uniforms that us girls weren't particularly fond of having to wear up to year 10!
oh and my dad is the third from the left.

Happy Happy Friday, I am so glad you are here!
Have a good weekend everyone

Flashback Friday...

I picked these specially for you!

my mumma on a family picnic. circa 1961?
isn't she super cute?!

So... I have not done a flashback post in far too long and I decided it was time to get back in the swing of it. And Morgan sent me an email that read "sscuse me, but I am waiting flashback Friday!"

I'm afraid that's all I can muster up right now, it's just been one of those days...a looong one. Here's to the weekend I hope you all enjoy yourselves so very much and tune in soon as tomorrow we will be drawing the 'I don't know what I'm giving away give away' (yeah I still don't know)

Flashback Friday

This cute little baby is my sweet Morgan Luke. Words fail to express just how dear this boy is to me. We've been dating for just over 3 years and I still wish our time spent together never had to end.

He loves:
Playing his drums at church and in his band (whom are still unnamed), mucking around with his new car, making me laugh, playing mario cart, being outdoors, mucking around with a soccer ball, watching soccer, listening to music and finding new music to share, just driving, being with family, dreaming about the days to come and just laughing.
This boy will pray with me and for me whenever I ask. He holds me when I feel sad and can always make me laugh. When he smiles and is happy it makes my heart sing. He is just the best.

Oh, and I think he's still just as cute today as he is in this picture :)

Thank you my boy can't wait to spend a fun weekend with you.. even if we ARE going to watch soccer :P

Flashback Friday...

Today it is cold. and rainy. The weather is playing tricks on us. This is so NOT how the first week of spring is supposed to go! Luckily it's not as cold as in this photo. Or I would be worried. Really worried. This photo is of my grandma and my two Aunts (dad's two oldest sisters) in the 1950's when they lived in Blue Mountains.
I Love this shot and want those jackets! :)

p.s c'mon springtime I'm waiting for you!

Flashback Friday..

This week were flashbacking to the 1950 St Joseph's College athletics carnival. Seriously, this is way too sophisticated and glamorous for an athletics carnival right?

This College is over 150 years old and it is the school my grandpa went to, and also his three boys and the school my brother is going to next year - which he is very excited about. Did I mention it was a boarding school?

The two people on the right are my grandparents at about age 18. I love in this shot how they are not looking at the camera but rather to each other talking, laughing and flirting! And don't even try to deny that's not what was going on Gramps! ;)

And that picnic basket... so amazing!

Have a great weekend everyone and be safe!
Hopefully i will be able to finish my sassy apron swap and there can be a show and tell on Monday. Stay tuned :)

love,
Katie

Flashback Friday..

My Grandpa (or 'Gramps' as he likes to sign off on his emails) had a tonne of old scanned images on his computer that I asked if I could copy onto my USB when I was over last. All of them I have seen before, know of the top of my head and even though they are before my time I can usually name the people within the image - from all those times I have poured over the family albums and listen to Grandma's stories about the people and memories contained in each one.
But I came across this image and it escapes my memory - where has this beautiful little snapshot of my Grandma been hiding?
I love it! The elegence, the gloves and the full skirt - late 50's early 60's right? And the more of look at it i actually see abit of myself in there too!
I'm off to find out more...

Have a lovely weekend everyone :)

ps. I just realized the image is saved with the date, circa 1963!

Flashback Friday

oh baby today I know exactly how you feel..why is this winter seeming to drag on forever? And why must today I be at work when I have so many ideas and creative thoughts swimming around in my head? I long to pull out my sewing machine and start something, finish a project, go for a long inspiring walk and drench in the sunshine that is today actually deciding to shine. Today i am feeling agitated and edgy and looking forward to the long weekend I am blessed enough to have and some good church fellowship on Sunday..

p.s I love your vintage lamb toys and stroller.

my aunt Susie circa 1954.

Flashback Friday

I love this image so much. It makes me laugh. This is my mum's older sister and brother and I think (from what Nan told me) they were all dressed up to go to church. Theres quite a big gap between the two older siblings and the two younger in my mum's family (Her sister is 8 years older than her and her brother is about 10) and it's amazing how that difference shows up in the photos in the outfits and hairstyles. My uncles Graeme's tiny hat cracks me up, and the large bow on my Aunty Karen's head (this is Keara's Nanna). And then there's Nanna in her prime, young and fresh the happy mother of two cute little kids - simply beautiful!

flashback friday..

I can't help but smile everytime I see this picture. My dad and his two impish older sisters giving a helping hand with washing the car. Somehow dad doesn't seem at all impressed by this job, or the fact that he got stuck with the feather duster! He sometimes still pulls that face today so it makes me laugh seeing it in a younger version too :)

Have a great weekend all... I'm looking forward to a weekend of blissful nothing but some sewing and crafting. yipee! Hope yours is grand too..

Flash Back Friday..

My dad at 18 months old. Theres just something I love about images such as these that are not posed for the camera, but rather a snap shot of life as it was.

Knowing my dad as I do and all the stories of how he would walk home from school with his two older sisters and he would be carrying a huge load of nuts and bolts and found objects in his bulging pockets or the time he asked for a box of broken toys for his birthday, so he could create new objects out of them and find out how they work... I know that look on his face is him exploring his world, trying to find out how it all works, how those wheels are turning and just how those crickets legs move.

It's almost surreal looking at this image as these are my memories I have of my brother playing with his trucks. The same pose, the same thoughtful expression, the same chubby cheeks only 30 years previously. wow.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone! M and I are off to Boomerang Beach for the weekend to meet up with his family who are already on holidays there. now if only work would go a bit faster... :)

Flashback Friday

This is the way the neighbour found my mum one sunny day out the front of her house and he was nice enough to take these Polaroid shots of her. She can't remember whether it was her older sister who dressed her up or whether she got up to this mischief herself, but there she was in all her cuteness and curls in her mum's over sized shoes and handbag. People who know my mum often can't believe this is her (she has since she was about 5 had very dark straightish hair!)

Out of all our old family photos i think these two have to be pretty much my favourite!

*edit note* I was just talking to my mumma about this photo and apparently she had got up to this mischief all by herself. Apparently she used to love getting into her mother's closet and shoes quite often :) aww

Flashback Friday..

I have decided that It's finally time I had a weekly feature on the blog..

I love old photos. I really, really do! Theres just something about the clothes. the poses. the way these images reflect small snippets of the past. Whenever I'm at my grandparents I love to pour over all the old albums again and again. In my family I'm so lucky to have had a grandfather who was so interested in photography and so many amazing images of my dad and his brothers and sisters growing up (and silent films with the sound of music songs playing in the background - they are awesome!)

So... here is my version of 'Flashback Friday' Because I believe these photos deserve more than to just be placed in a box or old album and forgotten about - they deserve to be shared!

My grandparents at a debutante ball the very first night they met. As fate would have it my grandma was asked along as a date. Something to do with keeping the numbers of boys and girls even for dancing.. I think its safe to say she spent the majority of the night dancing with my grandpa. He tells the story of how he came home that night and told his mother that he had met the girl he was going to marry!
